A Position
A brotherhood is a gathering of people, or groups of people, who collectively
function in the promotion of their common interest. Music is an interest where a
such a grouping seems to be in order.
There is a large amount of vital music activity in Arizona. There are
organized groups that have music education as a primary or secondary purpose.
Most of these are vaguely known to each other and there's not a mechanism in
place that can define the purpose and identify the leadership and location of
each.
The unknown often breeds fear. Various professional efforts are not
understood by everyone. This lack of understanding may breed jealousies and
suspicions. However, when people are acquainted with each other, these negatives
are usually converted into positives.
In the field of fine arts, the "buzz word" of recent decades has been
ADVOCACY. This word seems to define the reactive response to the concern of arts
programs being lost due to disinterest by those in charge of the political
debate, nationally and locally. Advocacy efforts have been effective in
developing knowledge in those who otherwise would be uninformed and
disinterested. Even better would be the proactive approach. This could be
described as MARKETING.
